I have developed a new recipe, a really good coffee bread with figs, dates and walnuts for this year's first Advent coffee. Imagine a bread that is like a cross between scones and fruitcake, a good bread for Advent and easy to make. Sunday is the first Advent, think how cozy time we have ahead of us now. This year I tried my hand at a new recipe for the Advent breakfast and the result was this Christmas bread / cake / scones loaf .. I have not come up with a suitable name yet. Not everything has to contain saffron for Christmas, I think, and there are so many other flavors and ingredients that are suitable for Advent coffee and Christmas. I made this bread without sugar as I think the sweetness from the dates and figs is enough but it will be more cake if you add 1 dl of sugar to the batter. It goes well as breakfast bread when you skip the sugar. You can prepare the batter in the evening and put it in the fridge to bake in the morning. Freshly baked on the Advent weekend is probably the most wonderful feeling or what do you say? What gives me the most Christmas feeling is the smell of different food and desserts, candles and music of course. So much more is not needed to get in the mood.

You need;

  • 500 g wheat flour
  • 100 g butter
  • 200 ml milk 20 g
  • ½ package of fresh yeast
  • 4 egg yolks
  • (Optional) 1 dl sugar
  • ½ dl walnuts
  • ½ dl figs / dates
  • Alternatively, you can add orange peel

Warm the milk to room temperature and mix in yeast and possibly sugar, then mix in eggs and flour and finally the dried fruit. Turn on the oven about 175 degrees. Let the bread rise for at least 30 minutes. Set and bake until golden brown. (approx. 30min depending on oven)
